i went to the mailbox today…
and i got some of the most emotionally disturbing letters… disrupting my otherwise stable and chill day…
i got a letter from a friend ive known since 5th grade… and we havent talked since high school… i took a triple take on the sender of the letter. a little incredulous at whose name i was really reading because it was totally from outfield and its been so long since ive seen or heard from him… he started sharing about how hes been doing and whats hes been doing and added in the end that he appreciated what im doing right now with my life.
i got a letter from a dongseng from home. we were really close back when i was in youth group, and then i went to college and of course time and distance did its magic and a separation formed between us. didnt talk much, but whenever we did get to see each other when i went home was always good times just fooling around and reliving the old days… and there were times where i felt really torn and 아쉬워 that i had to move on with my life and leave my youth group behind (however terrible that sounds… its a reality…) he wrote to me things i didnt know he was even capable to share. sharing about how he felt and his concern for me. sure he may have felt it and stuff… but voicing it and expressing it. dang… really convicted me.
i got a letter from a friend back at unc. a very special friend of mine who i always felt a special 걱정 and bond with since the moment he came to unc. and he finally wrote to me (after a lot of miscommunication lol) and i finally got his letter in the mail and that was seriously another curve ball to my otherwise uneventful day. and he included lyrics to a song because he knew i was pretty particular about being a musical person and was especially crushed about forgetting lyrics to song i cherish and enjoy. and the lyrics were something that really got me thinking about my life… and was really helping me to cope with what im going through right now.

sigh. my explanation for why none of these alternate realities became the primary… BECAUSE ROSE IS SELFISH. watch the whole movie again. she is selfish. and then the last thing she did in the movie, was the most unselfish thing she could have ever done. its kind of a hidden storyline.

thank you everyone for mailing me and really taking part in an age-old medium of communication that really holds more sentiment and weight than a simple text or message on facebook. i shouldve checked my mailbox on my birthday… haha
i had been blessed IMMENSELY during my time in college. God loved me through everyone around me. even when times got hard and i had problems with people, God still used everyone around me to teach me lessons on Love. and really, every single one of my birthdays in college (all 4 years) have really really been memorable. with the church, unc, and unc manna just rallying together and throwing me such an undeserving party or uncomfortable attention has become deeply rooted in my spirit and quite frankly part of my identity. i was blessed far beyond what i could have imagined in thousands of lifetimes.
and even when i am hundreds and hundreds (actually thousands) of miles away, yall have really taught me another facet of what friendship was meant to be. i spent a good 30 minutes just reading all the mail (mostly because im fighting back tearsssssIKE lol). whens the last time i spent more than 5 minutes reading mail? i have no idea.
theres a tradition in the army with coins. whenever a soldier performs a duty to an exemplary degree or embodies a value that sets him or her apart from others, he or she is awarded with an army coin from the commander. its an age-old tradition of honor, and to each of you all i give you a golden coin of my sincere and emotional appreciation. i am undeserving and inadequate.
oh and my mom is shipping me my guitar very soon (the one that you guys bought me)… so maybe ill get some time to practice and record some silly songs because thats what im good at :)
